Ground Beef and Gravy Over Mashed Potatoes

A comforting dish featuring rich ground beef and luscious gravy over creamy mashed potatoes, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon gold potatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Fill a medium pot with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring it to a boil and add the cut potatoes. Cook for 7 to 8 minutes.
  2. Prepare Butter and Milk Mixture: In a small saucepan, combine butter and milk over medium heat until melted.
  3. Drain and Dry the Potatoes: Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot to dry.
  4. Mash the Potatoes: Mash the potatoes and stir in the butter-milk mixture. Season to taste.
  5. Prepare the Gravy: Mix cornstarch with 1/4 cup of beef broth until smooth.
  6. Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned.
  7. Add Seasonings and Broth: Add remaining beef broth, onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  8. Thicken the Gravy: Whisk in the cornstarch mixture and bring to a boil, cooking for another 2 minutes.
  9. Serve: Divide mashed potatoes in bowls and top with ground beef and gravy.
