A comforting dish that combines tender broccoli and cauliflower with a rich, creamy cheese sauce, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound broccoli florets
  • 1/2 pound cauliflower florets
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 ounces smoked sausage, sliced into 1-inch rounds
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or plain yogurt or sour cream)
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing it.
  2. Boil water in a large pot and cook the broccoli and cauliflower florets for 3 minutes before draining.
  3. Sauté onion and garlic in a skillet with vegetable oil for about 2 minutes and an additional 15 seconds for the garlic.
  4. Add the sliced smoked sausage, cooking until browned.
  5. Combine the vegetables and sausage in the baking dish.
  6. Mix cream cheese, mayonnaise (or alternatives), 1 cup of shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a bowl until creamy.
  7. Pour the mixture over the vegetables and sausage, mixing gently.
  8. Top the mixture with the remaining shredded cheese.
  9. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure cream cheese is room temperature for easier blending. Substitute smoked sausage with turkey sausage or omit entirely for a vegetarian version. Add different cheese types or additional veggies for variations.
