  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring (for frosting)
  • Pink food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one by one, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract, blending well.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
  7. Fold in the cotton candy flavoring evenly throughout the batter.
  8. Divide the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  10. Beat softened butter until creamy for frosting. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
  11. Add heavy cream, cotton candy flavoring, and pink food coloring, if using. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
  12. Once the cupcakes are cool, pipe or spread the frosting on top and garnish with sprinkles or candy floss if desired.

Notes

Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy creaming and do not overmix the batter to keep cupcakes tender.
