A comforting Italian American dish featuring jumbo pasta shells filled with a rich mixture of beef, ricotta, and marinara sauce, perfect for family gatherings.

  • 12 jumbo pasta shells
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the jumbo pasta shells according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and let cool.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef until browned.
  4. Add minced garlic and Italian seasoning, stirring for 2 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, grated Parmesan, and the egg in a mixing bowl.
  7. Fold in the cooled beef mixture to create the filling.
  8. Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce in a baking dish.
  9. Stuff each pasta shell with the ricotta-beef mixture and place in the dish.
  10. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the shells.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
  12. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden.
  14. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

Ensure the pasta shells are cooked al dente to avoid mushiness when baked. You can prepare and fill the shells a day ahead and refrigerate them.
