  • 1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
  3. Mix the ripe mashed bananas, sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest flavor. Optionally, add espresso powder to enhance chocolate flavor.
