A delightful dish featuring crispy, golden bites of tender shrimp, perfect for parties and cozy dinners alike.

  • 1 lb small raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.33 cup cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup fine cornmeal
  • 0.75 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1.5 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1.25 tsp kosher salt (divided)
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry.
  2. Marinate the shrimp in buttermilk and hot sauce for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Create the coating by mixing flour, cornstarch, cornmeal, panko, spices, and half the salt.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet to approximately 350°F (175°C).
  5. Coat the marinated shrimp in the coating mixture.
  6. Fry the shrimp in small batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Drain the shrimp on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

For an extra kick, adjust the hot sauce to your taste. You can also experiment with different seasonings and bake instead of fry for a healthier version.
