A delightful treat featuring flaky puff pastry filled with creamy custard and topped with fresh cherries, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Fresh cherries, pitted and halved
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  3. Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a medium bowl.
  4. Pour in the heavy cream and whole milk, heating until warm but not boiling.
  5. Gradually pour the warm milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
  6. Return the combined mixture to the saucepan, cooking over medium-low heat while whisking until thickened.
  7. Stir in the vanilla extract and allow to cool slightly.
  8. Spoon the cooled custard onto the heart-shaped puff pastry.
  9. Bake the pastries for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Top each pastry with fresh cherry halves and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Ensure your puff pastry is cold before baking for maximum flakiness. Whisk the custard constantly while cooking to prevent curdling.
