Delightful biscuits featuring jalapeños and sharp cheddar cheese for a perfect blend of heat and flavor.

  • 1/2 Cup Cubed Butter (very cold, unsalted)
  • 1 3/4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh Jalapeño Peppers (finely chopped)
  • 1 Cup Cheddar Cheese (shredded)
  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk (cold)
  • 6 Jalapeño Slices (to top, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper or butter a cast iron skillet.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and cubed butter until resembling coarse crumbs.
  3. Add Seasonings: Stir in salt, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, and chopped jalapeños.
  4. Incorporate Cheese: Mix in shredded cheddar cheese until just combined.
  5. Shape the Dough: Pat the dough into a rectangle and fold several times before rolling to 1/2 to 3/4 inch thickness.
  6. Cut into Biscuits: Use a biscuit cutter to make 2- to 3-inch rounds.
  7. Prepare for Baking: Place biscuits on the tray, topping each with a jalapeño slice if desired.
  8. Chill the Biscuits: Freeze for 10-15 minutes.
  9. Brush with Buttermilk: Brush tops with cold buttermilk.
  10. Bake: Bake for 20-23 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Finish and Serve: Brush with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

Use very cold butter for flaky biscuits and avoid overworking the dough.
