A mouthwatering, smoky delight with tender shredded chicken, tangy BBQ sauce, and melted Havarti cheese, layered between crispy sourdough bread.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 1/2 cups shredded roast chicken
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 12 slices Havarti cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons parsley, minced
  • 12 slices sourdough bread

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced red onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until aromatic.
  4. Add the shredded roast chicken, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and BBQ sauce.
  5. Mix everything together and cook until heated through, about 2–3 minutes.
  1. Melt the butter in the microwave with the minced garlic and parsley.
  2. L lay out the 12 slices of bread on a flat surface.
  3. Spread the melted butter mixture over each slice.
  4. Flip each slice over.
  5. Layer a slice of Havarti cheese on six of the slices, followed by the BBQ chicken mixture, then top with another slice of cheese.
  6. Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing outward.
  1. Cook the assembled sandwiches in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat until the bottom is browned, about 3–5 minutes.
  2. Flip the sandwiches and cook on medium-low until the other side is brown and the cheese is melted, another 3–5 minutes.

Notes

For added flavor, include jalapeños or favorite veggies in the chicken mixture. You can also use smoked BBQ sauce for extra smokiness.
