Scale
  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (any kind you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or an 8×8-inch square pan.
  2. Whisk together the milk, applesauce, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, and egg until smooth.
  3. Stir in the rolled oats, cinnamon, and salt until everything is well combined.
  4. Fold the chopped apples into the oatmeal mixture.
  5. Pour the oatmeal mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden and the oatmeal is set.
  7. Sprinkle walnuts or pecans on top in the last 10 minutes of baking for a crunchy finish.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Consider adding a pinch of nutmeg for extra warmth or include dried fruits for added texture and flavor. Substitute half the oats with quinoa for a healthier twist.
