  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. Combine the mashed bananas, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Mix until smooth.
  3. Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix gently.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make sure the bananas are ripe for the best flavor. Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting to prevent mess.
