  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Hamburger buns
  • Pickles or cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain any excess fat and transfer the browned beef to a slow cooker.
  3. Add the finely chopped onion, green bell pepper (if using), and minced garlic.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix together the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, mustard, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika.
  5. Pour the sauce over the meat and vegetables, stirring gently to combine.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4–6 hours or on high for 2–3 hours.
  7. Once the cooking time is up, stir the mixture and spoon it onto warm hamburger buns.
