A quick and easy stir fry featuring tender beef and colorful vegetables, all coated in a savory, umami-rich sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced thinly
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (canola or your choice)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (for the sauce)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing your flank steak. Carefully slice it thinly across the grain into 1/2 inch thick, 2-inch long strips.
  2. Combine these strips in a medium bowl with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, marinating for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground ginger for the sauce.
  4. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat, and add half of the marinated beef to fry for about 3 minutes.
  5. Remove the beef from the pan and repeat with the remaining beef.
  6. Stir fry the broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and red bell pepper for about 2 minutes until vibrant and crisp.
  7. Return the seared beef to the skillet and pour the prepared sauce over the mixture, stirring well.
  8. Heat everything thoroughly for another 1-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  9. Top with sliced green onion and toasted sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For a spicier version, consider adding crushed red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce. Marinating the beef enhances flavor and tenderness.
