Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or mahi-mahi)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, plus extra for garnish
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or agave syrup
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pat fish dry and rub with spice mixture.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the seasoned fish for 3-4 minutes on each side until it flakes easily.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped red onion, cilantro, and jalapeño (if using).
  4. Whisk together mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), lime juice, honey, salt, and pepper in a separate bowl, then pour over the slaw and toss well.
  5. Warm tortillas in a skillet until soft and pliable.
  6. Break cooked fish into chunks and distribute among warmed tortillas. Top with cilantro lime slaw.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with extra cilantro and lime wedges.

Notes

For added flavor, marinate the fish for 30 minutes before cooking. Customize slaw with other vegetables, or adjust spice levels as needed.
