Delightful crispy and savory fritters made with sweet onions, perfect for appetizers or snacks.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, and paprika in a large bowl.
  2. Beat the egg in a separate bowl, then stir in the milk until well combined.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients gradually, mixing until just incorporated.
  4. Fold in the thinly sliced onions until well coated.
  5. Heat about half an inch of vegetable oil in a skillet to 365°F (185°C).
  6. Spoon the batter by quarter-cupfuls into the hot oil, slightly flattening each fritter.
  7. Fry each side for about 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Drain the fritters on paper towels and serve warm.

Notes

Use sweet onions like Vidalia or Walla Walla for the best flavor. Make sure oil is at the right temperature for frying.
