  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg white (for royal icing)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for royal icing)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (for royal icing)
  • Fondant flowers (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the unsalted butter and 1 cup of powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract into the creamy mixture.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry blend to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  7. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.

  11. Pipe the icing onto each cookie, creating designs as desired.
  12. Decorate with fondant flowers once the icing has set.
