Ingredients
Scale
1 loaf French bread
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cut the French bread in half lengthwise and brush each cut side with olive oil.
Sprinkle the minced garlic evenly over the surface.
Bake the garlic bread in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes, or until it turns crispy and golden.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and green pepper, and cook until the meat is browned and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously over the toasted garlic bread.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top and return to the oven for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Cut into slices and serve warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, let the ground beef brown well. Consider adding a dash of hot sauce or smoked paprika.
