Deliciously cheesy and slightly spicy biscuits perfect for breakfast or a savory snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 12 fresh jalapeños, seeded and finely chopped
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter and work it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in shredded cheddar cheese and finely chopped jalapeños.
  5. Pour in buttermilk and stir until the dough comes together, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
  7. Fold the dough over onto itself 2-3 times, then pat it back to 1-inch thickness.
  8. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For an extra pop of flavor, consider adding smoked paprika. Adjust spice by using more or less jalapeños.
