  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (for frosting)
  • Orange food coloring (optional)
  • White fondant or royal icing for creating daisies
  • Yellow candy or sprinkles for daisy centers

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in the vanilla extract and orange zest.
  5. Incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with the orange juice and buttermilk.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cool the cakes in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the frosting, beat the butter until smooth and gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and orange juice.
  9. Frost the top of the first layer with a portion of frosting and place the second layer on top, frosting the entire cake.
  10. Decorate with fondant or royal icing daisies and attach yellow candy in the centers.
