A delightful twist on the traditional burger with roasted cabbage, juicy beef patties, and melted cheese, perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head green cabbage, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (or ketchup)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or Monterey Jack), divided
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chili pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lay out the cabbage slices on a baking sheet, then brush each slice with a light coat of oil. Season them generously with salt and black pepper.
  2. Roast the cabbage in your preheated oven for about 10 minutes, until they become slightly tender.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with grated garlic, chopped green onion, parsley, red chili flakes, half of the shredded cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined, then shape the mixture into four uniform patties.
  4. Assemble your burgers by topping each roasted cabbage slice with a spoonful of tomato sauce, a sprinkling of cheese, a beef patty, and another layer of cheese.
  5. Return the assembled burgers to the oven and bake for another 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the patties are thoroughly cooked. Serve hot.

Notes

Feel free to swap out the ground beef for turkey or chicken for a leaner option, and add spices or veggies for enhanced flavor.
