Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head of green cabbage, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 1 lb of lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup of tomato sauce (or ketchup)
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheese (mozzarella or Monterey Jack)
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp of red chili pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp of grated garlic
  • 1/2 cup of chopped green onion
  • 1/2 cup of chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lay cabbage slices on a baking sheet and brush with oil; season with salt and black pepper.
  2. Roast the cabbage for about 10 minutes until slightly tender.
  3. Combine lean ground beef with garlic, green onion, parsley, chili flakes, half the cheese, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl; mix well and shape into four patties.
  4. Assemble the burgers by topping each cabbage slice with tomato sauce, cheese, a beef patty, and more cheese on top.
  5. Return the burgers to the oven and bake for another 10-12 minutes until cheese is melted and patties are cooked.

Notes

Use fresh cabbage for the best structure and don’t skip the roasting step; it enhances flavor and texture.
