A comforting stew combining roasted turkey with fluffy, herb-infused dumplings in a savory broth, perfect for family dinners.

  • 3 cups leftover turkey stock
  • 1 ½ cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon Chicken Base
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 16 oz. bag baby carrots, sliced
  • 4 ribs celery, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • 3 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 45 cups leftover roast turkey, shredded
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon dried parsley
  • â…› teaspoon ground rosemary
  • â…› teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • â…‘16 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cold butter, cubed
  • ½ cup cold milk
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold milk, separated
  • â…› teaspoon regular table salt

Instructions

  1. Combine chicken broth and turkey stock over medium heat in a large stock pot.
  2. Heat boiling water in the microwave with chicken base until dissolved; add to the pot.
  3. Bring everything to a boil.
  4. Add chopped onion, sliced carrots, celery, minced garlic, black pepper, thyme, and butter to the pot.
  5. Boil for about 10 minutes.
  6. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, black pepper, parsley, rosemary, poultry seasoning, and onion powder for the dumplings.
  7. Cut in cold butter until crumbly; stir in cold milk until just combined.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough into the simmering broth.
  9. Reduce heat to low, cover tightly, and cook for 15 minutes.
  10. Fold in shredded turkey without breaking apart dumplings.
  11. Mix cornstarch with additional cold milk; stir into stew and cook until thickened.
  12. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

Notes

For added flavor, sauté onions until golden brown before adding other ingredients.
