Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, water, and sugar in a large bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over the liquid and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling by beating together cream cheese, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, chopped strawberries, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
  7. Roll the dough into a tight log and slice it into 8-10 equal rolls. Place them in a greased baking dish.
  8. Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream or milk for the glaze until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a squeeze of lemon juice to the filling or garnish with fresh strawberries.
