Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Combine the warm milk and yeast in a small bowl; let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl, then add the melted butter, eggs, and the yeast mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness, then cut with a heart-shaped cutter and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  6. Cover the shaped donuts with a towel and let rest for another 30 minutes.
  7. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C) for frying.
  8. Fry each donut for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
  9. Roll warm donuts in granulated sugar until fully coated.
  10. Serve warm on their own or with a hot beverage for a delightful experience.

Notes

Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast. Avoid over-kneading the dough.
