Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (additional for cornstarch)
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin your culinary adventure by taking a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the finely chopped pineapple along with 1/2 cup of water, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and minced ginger.
  3. Stir the mixture well, bringing it to a gentle simmer.
  4. Let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes until the pineapple becomes tender.
  5. Prepare a cornstarch slurry by mixing 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl.
  6. Stir in the cornstarch slurry along with the red chili flakes and a pinch of salt into the pineapple mixture.
  7. Continue simmering for an additional 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  8. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool down.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of fresh lime juice or adjust the sweetness with more honey. Can be frozen for longer storage.
